The Carbon Trust has launched a new scheme to encourage business owners to use their employees as a “secret weapon” in reducing their carbon emissions.

Two million tonnes of CO2 could be saved by businesses in the UK by encouraging staff to make changes to their behaviour and day to day activities according to the Carbon Trust. These could be simple measures such as turning off lights in rooms such as kitchens and bathrooms when not in use, turning off PCs and monitors properly at night and turning the heating turn by 1°C.

The Carbon Trust also recommends that businesses should use the phone or videoconferencing software instead of driving to meetings with associates and clients to make more significant carbon reduction.
