The university league tables for 2012 are out and the results are almost unanimous. Cambridge University narrowly defeated its old rival Oxford to top tables across the board and be named the UK’s finest university by all but the Times university rankings.

With the graduate employment market so tight, high marks have never been more important and a real focus on essays and achievement was evident in the rankings. Universities were graded on student satisfaction with both teaching and feedback, with St Andrews and Loughborough Universities performing particularly highly in these categories.
